1990 Suzuki RG500 WW
$40,000 + ORC
From 1981 to 1984, the Suzuki RG500 racing motorcycle was manufactured purely for competition only, specifically in the Grand Prix motorcycle racing series. The motorcycle was powered by a 500 cc two-stroke engine. This was a complete revision of the RG500 used in the Gran Prix through the 70’s, which Barry Sheene used to win two 500cc World Championships, 1976 and 1977. The Roberto Gallina-Suzuki team using the brand new RG500won two consecutive riders’ world championships in the 500cc class with Marco Lucchinelli in 1981 and Franco Uncini in 1982. Suzuki also won seven consecutive 500cc Class Constructors’ titles around this same time
In March 1983 Suzuki presented the RG250 Gamma, the first member of the becoming RG-Gamma family. The following year Suzuki introduced the largest member, RG500 Gamma, a two-stroke race replica of the aforementioned racing motorcycle. An RG400 was also produced and marketed alongside the RG500.
The RG500 Gamma racer replica was the closest you could get to a real GP machine back in the mid 80’s. It copied the racer with its four water-cooled cylinders arranged in a square, disc valves and all the latest two-stroke technology. The chassis was as advanced, with an aluminium box frame and Full-Floater rear suspension.
It was in production from 1985 to 1987. The racing motorcycle was replaced by the RGV500 in 1986, and no road-legal replica of this machine was produced.
This model has been painted in the “Walter Wolf Racing” Livery. Walter Wolf is a Slovenian-Canadian businessman, who had an extremely successful Formula One team in the ’70s and co-operated with Suzuki in the 80’s to produce limited editions of Suzuki’s two-stroke “Gamma” motorcycles. Today, Walter Wolf is a luxury cigarette, perfume, and clothing brand.
