1994 Yamaha TZM50R

Offers above $7,000 considered

The Yamaha YSR50 made its debut in 1986 and quickly became a leader in the genre of 50cc miniature motorcycles, with its exceptional manoeuvrability and speed, essentially being a scaled-down version of the widely popular Yamaha YZR 500. However, after the release of the Honda NSR50, it continued to fall behind in its specifications, and a revision was needed to keep up the competition with Honda. Thus, in 1993, the Yamaha TZM50R was first released. It kept up with the very steep competition, and it was supported as the ace of the mini bike racing world with the Honda NSR50 until its production ended in 1999.

The engine is a water-cooled 2-stroke single engine based on the TZR50R that was released earlier (there are differences in the rotation direction of the shift drum and the number of clutch plates: 3 for the TZR50R and 4 for the TZM). The cylinder was changed, and compared to the ’93 TZR50R, it is equipped with a larger diameter carburettor and the cylinder scavenge port has been enlarged. Although the cylinder of the engine was a special part for TZM, it was later adopted in the TZR50R, which shows the quality of the engine. Additionally, due to the engine change, the torsional rigidity of the frame has been strengthened by approximately 50% compared to YSR.

The wheels are the same 12-inch wheels, but instead of the iron press wheels of the YSR50/80, cast aluminium hollow spoke wheels similar to the TDR80/50 have been adopted, and the brakes are front and rear disc brakes (2 pots at the front, 1 pot at the rear. Both are single push). was treated. However, unlike the TDR80/50, a small-diameter disc rotor is used at the rear to reduce weight.

Another major change in the front suspension is that the YSR used an oil damper on only one side but now has oil dampers on both the left and right sides. The rear suspension is a monocross type. On the other hand, perhaps due to cost considerations, the fuel tank is the same as the YSR, and the top bridge, upper cowl, air cleaner box, etc. are common parts with the TZR50.
