2000 Triumph Daytona

$10,000 + ORC

The Triumph Daytona was first released in 1997, and Triumph had one goal, to break into the sports bike sector of the market. Triumph had been successful with their cruiser motorcycles, but they decided that it was time to release something more sleek and quick, that could provide high speeds with expert manoeuvring. It had a big task ahead of it, taking on the mighty Honda FireBlade and the Kawasaki ZX-9R, the top Japanese sport bikes at the time.

The first Triumph Daytona was named the T595, featuring a 955cc 3-cylinder engine designed with Lotus, a luxury car brand. The T595 model received this name based on two aspects of the bike, the engine series “T5” and the first two displacement numbers, “95”. However, this name led to a fair amount of confusion from motorcycle riders, with many thinking that the displacement was actually 595cc instead of 955cc.

In 1999, it was decided that the bike would be renamed the Daytona 955i, ensuring everyone knew that the bike had a displacement of 955cc. The bike also received new throttle bodies, injectors, and a fuel rail. The 2000 version of the 955i also had a more compact and advanced electronic engine system, having 2 plus instead of 1.

The Daytona was in production up until 2006. In 2002, the bike went through many changes, including a more powerful engine, and a reduced weight with better handling. From then, the bike went through minor appearance changes each year up until production ended.
