2005 Triumph Speed Triple

Offers above $10,000 considered

During the early 90’s, a new family of motorcycles was born by Triumph named Triple, named as such due to all the bikes possessing the same triple-cylinder engine, One of the longest-running and most famous members of this family was the Speed Triple, with the initial model being first released to the public in 1994, named Speed Triple as an acknowledgement to the 1938 Speed Twin. It used the signature Triple 3-cylinder engine, which also powered the Triumph Trident, Daytona sport bike, and the Thunderbird retro bike.

The first 1994–1995 Speed Triples came with a standard 885 cc water-cooled engine and a rugged five-speed transmission. This was named the T309 model, and the first out of 4 models over the next decade. As with all the modular Triumphs, the T309 series Speed Triple had a substantial single steel tube backbone frame and used the engine as a stressed member. The forks were 43mm multi-adjustable Kayaba units and the same Japanese firm’s shock could be set for preload and rebound damping. Kayaba has had a special relationship with the Hinckley Triumph since its creation. At the rear was a single monoshock with a progressive linkage, and at the front were standard hydraulic forks fitted with dual disc brakes.

The two models to follow were named T509 and 955i. The T509, introduced in 1997, was the first of a new generation of fuel-injected sports bikes. While the model had the same 885cc engine, it produced more horsepower due to its new engine management system. The Speed Triple 955i, first produced in 2000, only featured an appearance change, using the same engine from the T309.

In 2005, Triumph released its fourth-generation Speed Triple, the Speed Triple 1050. The engine was still the same one used since 1997, but its capacity was increased to 1,050 cc by lengthening the stroke. It was also modified with the Keihin Corporation’s fuel injection and engine management system, along with a higher horsepower and broader, flatter torque curve.

The Speed Triple was then revamped in 2016 with a new model, that reflected the change in Motorcycles since the 2005 version, with 104 changes to the engine.
