The Bultaco TSS 250 was a purpose-built Grand Prix production racer developed during the mid-1960s, at a time when Bultaco was rapidly establishing itself as one of Spain’s most innovative and competitive motorcycle manufacturers. Founded in 1958 by Francisco “Paco” Bultó, Bultaco quickly gained a reputation for producing lightweight, high-performance two-stroke machines aimed squarely at the GP market rather than road riding.

The TSS (Tralla Super Sport) series represented Bultaco’s most serious commitment to road racing. Unlike many racing motorcycles of the era that were adapted from roadgoing models, the TSS 250 was a pure competition machine, built specifically to compete in the 250 cc Grand Prix class. Sold directly to privateer racers, the TSS allowed independent teams access to factory-level performance without the need for extensive modification.

One of the defining features of the bike was Bultaco’s focus on handling and weight reduction. The lightweight tubular steel frame, combined with high-quality suspension components and racing geometry, gave the bike excellent cornering ability and predictable behaviour at speed. Liquid cooling was introduced in the 64-65 models to improve race durability and thermal stability, allowing the engine to maintain consistent performance over longer race distances.

The TSS 250 competed internationally throughout the mid-1960s, including appearances in 250 cc Grand Prix events and national championships across Europe. Notably, famous New Zealand Racer Ginger Molloy campaigned Bultaco machinery during this period, with a victory in the 1966 Ulster GP.

Production numbers for the TSS 250 were extremely limited, with estimates suggesting as few as 50 to 75 units produced worldwide, making surviving examples exceptionally rare today. As a result, the TSS 250 is now regarded as one of the most collectable Spanish racing motorcycles of the era.
